About Read Before You Watch
A simple tracker for readers who want to finish the book before the movie or series arrives.
What it does
For each adaptation we show the book, the screen version, where to watch, the release date (or TBA), its production status, a live countdown, and how long the book takes to read, so you can plan your reading around the date.
Where the data comes from
- Release dates and status: studio, streamer and publisher announcements, plus trade coverage (Deadline, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, TheWrap) and Wikipedia. Every entry lists its sources. We checked all entries on Oct 18, 2026.
- Page counts and book links: Open Library. We use the median page count across editions, which varies by edition.
- Unknown means TBA. If a date has not been announced we show “TBA” or the announced window (for example “Spring 2027 (expected)”). We never guess a day.
- Conflicts are flagged. When sources disagree, we use the most official one and say so on that page under “Data notes”.
Reading time
We assume about 1.2 minutes per page (roughly 50 pages an hour). Your pace will differ. The “can you finish in time?” tool lets you try 15 minutes to 2 hours a day.
Money and independence
